One of the most popular questions of Coaches new and old is how to get coaching clients. There are many successful ideas around and a lot of advice given about how a Coach can get clients, but it can all still be very confusing and tiresome trying to figure out the best way. So I have pretty much put it all into perspective for you. These are the same steps that I have taken and I have taught to other coaches. I call it the Master Coaching BusinessTM steps. In order to be successful at it you must have a business and marketing mindset plus determination.
Define Your Target Market – You will have a hard time getting coaching clients if you don’t know who you are marketing to. You will waste marketing time and dollars by marketing to the world in competition with so many other coaches who are marketing to the world. Narrow your target market in order to cut down on the completion. Also your target market will not know that you have services for them if you don’t say so.
Define Your Niche – In order to get clients you need to be more specific about what you are offering them. You are confusing your clients by telling them that you can help them “get unstuck”, “move forward”, “set goals”. What are they getting unstuck from, moving forward, or setting goals in? If you let them know, for an example, that you are a Life Coach or Passion Coach that you can help them find their passion, set goals to pursue their passion, and thus live a more happier life…I guarantee you can draw in more clients.
Lead Capturing System – You need an offline and online lead capturing system. The purpose of this is to capture contact information of potential clients before you’ll never see each other again. Once you have their contact information you can follow up with them special offers and helpful tips. Offline this can be done by capturing their name and address so that you can directly mail them information. Or capturing their cell phone number so that you can text them more information. Online this can be done by capturing their email address from your website.
Establish Yourself as an Expert in Your Niche – You need to establish yourself as an expert because let’s face it, how many times have you done business with someone after meeting them for the very first time? Usually you will ask other people about their credibility or seek reviews on them. It’s the same thing with new products. Don’t you check reviews before you purchase something that you’ve never heard of? Therefore, you have to establish yourself as an expert and build your reputation before potential clients decide to pay their hard earned money and hire you as a coach.
Create Coaching Products – Do you know that the majority of potential clients don’t know that they need a “coach”. Most of them are just looking for information and they will buy a really great product if they think it will help solve their problem. For example a couple may be looking for a system to help them improve their marriage. If you are a Relationship Coach and you created a system called “30 Days to a Better and Lasting Marriage” they will buy that before they seek coaching. Then they may also become a clients.
Create Coaching Programs – If you want better chances at getting clients try to create coaching programs such as group coaching programs that will be more affordable then 1-on-1 coaching. There are potential clients out there who need your services however, may not be able to afford them at this time. Group coaching is always a lot cheaper than 1-on-1 and you will still make out good because you will have a minimum of 5 people paying the same price for your group coaching.
Create Coaching Packages –When you provide 1-on-1 services consider creating packages instead of just saying “Hey I will coach for $300 for 4 sessions”. This goes along with your niche. If you can help solve specific problems you will attract clients. Create packages on what you will coach them on. For example a Business Package, “Rebuild Your Brand in 3 Months for $1500, 3 business coaching sessions a month” or a Health and Wellness Package “I will help you lower your blood pressure and cholesterol naturally in 120 Days. Weekly coaching sessions for $400 a month”. In addition, create packages in levels. For example Silver Package 4 Session for $400, Gold Package 8 Sessions for $700, etc. This was only an example, not to be taken literally.
Become a Speaker – The fastest way to get clients is to become a speaker. You can be a Keynote Speaker at events. You can host your own events such as seminars and teleseminars. When you become a speaker you will establish yourself as an expert and attract many clients. Plus you can sell your products at the speaking engagements.
Create a Marketing Plan and Strategy – Last but not least, but actually should have been first is to create a simple marketing plan and strategy. Ensure that it includes offline and online marketing strategies.
