3 Online Marketing Techniques that Worked for My Coaching Business in 2014
Aside from coach training, I also have a life and business coaching company called Universal Coach Center. I get 4 – 8 new clients or sales a month. This year (2014) I’ve used some of the same online marketing tactics that I always use. But I’ve also tried some new online marketing tactics too. So I’m going to share with you what online marketing tactics worked for my coaching business this year and what didn’t. I’m sharing these with you so that you can benefit from it and apply these online marketing tactics to your coaching business today.
On-Page Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
On-page search engine optimization (SEO) really did an excellent job driving traffic to my website this year. Most of my clientele came from the great on-page SEO that I’ve done.
See my results of how much traffic I drive to my website in a month, which in turn gets me some really good clientele and sales.
On-page SEO are the things that you do to your webpages to help you rank in search results. These things include targeting popular key terms for your niche and ensuring they are included in places like your meta title, meta description, and throughout your content in a non-spammy way. I made sure that I used different key terms for different pages. Remember all pages must be optimized. Leave no page unturned.
Also in order for on-page SEO to be really effective you have to start blogging. You should have a regular schedule for blogging. Ensure you optimize each blog post with an effective key term for your niche. The more content you post, the more chances your website will get picked up in search engine rankings.
The key is to use really great non-competitive keyword phrases or key terms. I’ve spoken about keyword reach before. In other articles I’ve explained how to do keyword research with Google’s Keyword Planner.
However, I have to admit the best program that I currently use to choose awesome keywords is Market Samurai (affiliate link). This software saved my life. It easily helps you find the right keyword phrases that are not competitive. It even helps you analyze your search engine competition. You can download a free trial here (affiliate link).
So be sure to:
- Find keyword phrases that your potential clientele will use to search for help in the areas that you provide services.
- Make sure these keyword phrases has good traffic and is non-competitive. You can use Google Keyword Planner or Market Samurai (affiliate link) to help you find good keyword phrases.
- Build pages and quality blog posts around those keyword phrases.
- Include them in your meta title, meta description, and throughout your content. If you use WordPress there is a really great plugin called WordPress SEO that will help you to optimize your webpages accurately.
Email and Relationship Marketing
Even though I was able to drive a good amount of traffic to my website, I needed a way to hold on to my audience before they left my website. Chances are once they leave they may not come back. Therefore, I created a great free optin offer, for them to join my list. When they join my list I build a really great relationship with them. I teach them things they want to learn about and in return they will either join my coaching programs or become a 1-on-1 coaching client.
Email and relationship marketing is not something new in my online marketing plan. It has always helped me to convert leads to clients. Therefore, this is something I’ve continued into 2014. I created a blog post about this in the past, you can read my email marketing post it here.
Life coaches and other professional coaches should use it on their website and also create squeeze pages to capture leads and build relationships. I created a few videos on how I do it and the tools I use here on YouTube.
Scarcity
Whenever I use scarcity I get a big boost in clientele and sales. Scarcity is when you tell people they have a limited time to buy a really great offer. Or you tell them that there is a limited supply of a product. The last time I used scarcity in my coaching business was over the Black Friday weekend. I made $1500 in clientele and product sales in 4 days.
The key is to have an unbelievable offer and limit the time to buy. So if your coaching sessions are normally $157 a session, you may offer it for $87 a session for a limited time.
The other key is that you must do a really great job in relationship marketing. This can be through email marketing, social media marketing, etc. If you have done an excellent job in relationship marketing some of your audience will jump at a chance to work with you if the price is right for them.
The best way for Life Coaches or any kind of professional coach to use scarcity is:
- To have a really great limited time pricing offer on your 1-on-1 coaching, a coaching program, or product.
- You can also offer limited spots in your coaching program or your 1-on-1 coaching services.
- Use scarcity as a 1 time offer after the client has joined your list. You can tell them they have 1, 5, or 30 days to claim the offer.
- Use scarcity around holidays or other times. However, do not use it too often or your deals may become predictable.
I use a really great tool called Scarcity Samurai (affiliate link). Scarcity Samurai places a scarcity timer on my webpages, so people can see how much time they have left. It will also end the offer automatically and redirect your audience to the regular sales page. You can download a free copy of Scarcity Samurai here (affiliate link).
