How to Get Coaching Clients Locally Using Local Keyword Research

By now you should have read Step 1 of online marketing for coaches -List Yourself in Online Directories.
Step 2 is about getting found by individuals who are looking for you within your local area. The best way to do this is to create a page on your website letting people know that you exist in your local area.
Keyword research is vital in online marketing for coaches. Keywords and key terms are what we as Internet users use to surf the Internet. We use it to search for information, articles, videos, in social media, forums etc. So in order for potential clients to find you for the services that you offer, you must choose the right keywords.
Today, I would like to talk about the most successful keyword you can use to get coaching clients. That would be the keyword for your local area.
Your Local Area
There are people looking for services that you offer in your area. There are people in your local area who need your help, but do not know you exist. Local online marketing is easier than trying to get coaching clients globally. Therefore, you must put this into action.
The first step you need to do is see if people are actually searching for coaches within your local area.
Here are 3 easy steps on how to do it.
1. Use Google’s Keyword Planner
Go to this link https://adwords.google.com/ko/KeywordPlanner/Home or Google “Google Adwords Keyword Planner” and click the very first link.
You may have to log in or register if you don’t have a Google account. The keyword planner, should look similar to this.
2. Search for Your Term
Click on “Search for new keywords and ad group ideas“.
Put in your search term ie. “life coach” in the “Your product or service” box.
Then scroll down to “Targeting” and remove the “country” and put in your city or state. Click “Get Ideas”
3. View the Monthly Search Volume
After you click “Get Ideas” you will first see the “Ad Group” list. Switch to the “Keyword Ideas” list. Then you will see the first term that you searched for. Next to it is the “Average Monthly Search” volume for your keyword in your area. You can ignore the “Competition” and other info for now. This is competition for Pay Per Click ads.
As you can see here, there is an average of 1300 people a month searching for the term life coach in New York.
4. Dig a Little Deeper
To dig a little deeper research the key term “Life Coach New York“, but replace New York with your City or State and see how many people are searching directly for a life coach in your area.
Next, to get those coaching clients, you will need to get in front of those people who are are searching for a “life coach” in your area.
The first thing to do is to ensure that you list your coaching services on those local directories that I spoke about in Step 1.
Second, you will need to create a page or post on your website using the local keyword for search engine optimization purposes. When people search for life coach in your area, you want your page to be one of the first to pop up in the search engines.
An example page would be “Life Coach in New York”. On this page you would talk about yourself as a coach and the services you offer in your local area.
Oh, by the way even if your monthly volume is let’s say “10”. That’s still 10 people a month you need to get in front of. That is 10 potential clients a month. And remember this is only local clients. People searching for life coach throughout the world is more than 40,000 a month. I will show you how to market those people later in the series.
